There is a very personal bias when I say that music has a very important purpose in most of our lives. All forms of art have their own unique qualities that reel people in, making them want to experience more of it. However, I think music can invoke different feelings in individuals, feelings that some people would otherwise find harder to experience in other works - happiness, sadness, anger, and even a source of inspiration. It is a form of art that is easier for the mass to digest, one that is also accessible to many.

During the 2022 National Elections campaign period, artists took the opportunity to showcase their talent while supporting their respective candidates. However, one work in particular caught my attention; the song Rosas was practically included on my daily feed in my social media accounts. This work is a result of a movement that included everyone - professionals and non professionals alike.

In the context of the Philippines and the 21st Century, it is not rare for female artists, and for a good reason, to take on the spotlight in the field of Arts. Rosas is not only sung by a woman; it is also composed by a woman and was made for the candidacy of a woman. Our modern society, which in nature is inclined to rely more on technology, made it easier for smaller artists to have a platform where they can present their works into.

The work, in the form of music, has served an appeal to the aesthetic cravings of people. It also had a very functional use for the candidacy. For me though, the most important part it played is stimulating a feeling of nationalism among the Filipinos; a very intense feeling many people might have not felt before. It would be of no surprise to me if Rosas goes down in history not because of recognition or prestige, but because of it serving a greater purpose.
